The density of licensed firearm dealers varies by more than 100-fold between U.S. states, according to an analysis of 51,272 Federal Firearms License (FFL) holders conducted by GunTransfers.com. The study found Wyoming has the highest rate of dealers per capita, with 86.4 per 100,000 residents.
In comparison, New Jersey has a substantially lower rate. The original press release indicated Wyoming's rate is 38 times that of New Jersey. Washington D.C. has the lowest density among all regions studied, with only 0.6 dealers per 100,000 residents.
Texas alone accounts for one in ten of all U.S. firearm dealers. The state holds a significant portion of the nation's total 51,272 licensed dealers.
