Study Shows PB125 Improves Vascular Function in Older Adults
New human clinical research demonstrates that Pathways Bioscience's PB125 formulation enhanced vascular function in older adults and preserved it during periods of physical inactivity.

Pathways Bioscience has announced the publication of new human clinical research in Free Radical Biology and Medicine, investigating the effects of its PB125 formulation. The study, involving researchers from institutions in the United States and Australia, focused on PB125's impact on vascular function and the body's antioxidant defenses.
The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study evaluated PB125 in 20 younger and 24 older adults. Findings revealed that PB125 significantly improved vascular endothelial function in older adults, as measured by flow-mediated dilation (FMD). In older participants, brachial artery FMD increased by approximately 65% and popliteal artery FMD by approximately 57%.
The research also examined PB125's ability to maintain vascular function during periods of physical inactivity. Five days of bed rest led to significant reductions in vascular function in older adults receiving a placebo. In contrast, participants taking PB125 maintained their vascular function, and their levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD), a key antioxidant, were also preserved. In younger adults, PB125 protected lower-limb endothelial function against decreases caused by two weeks of limb immobilization.
Researchers propose that PB125's vascular effects may be related to the activation of the Nrf2 pathway, a critical regulator of the body's cellular response to oxidative stress. These findings build upon earlier research indicating that PB125 activates Nrf2 and protects cells from oxidative injury. The study, funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health and the Department of Veterans Affairs, provides new human evidence for PB125's role in supporting vascular health.
