Sumner County Schools has reported improved English language arts (ELA) assessment results following the implementation of the AI-powered Coursemojo platform. Expanded use of the platform across middle school grades was associated with stronger student outcomes.

Sumner County Schools in Tennessee has reported improved English language arts (ELA) assessment results, linking stronger student outcomes to the implementation of Coursemojo, an AI-powered literacy platform.
During the 2025-26 school year, classrooms with average usage of 25 or more Coursemojo activities per student showed an average improvement of 3.7 percentage points in ELA proficiency. This contrasts with a -0.2 percentage point change among groups with little or no Coursemojo usage, indicating a nearly 4 percentage point difference in reading achievement.
Notably, eighth grade, an area that has seen stagnant performance, demonstrated district's strongest gains. Schools with high Coursemojo engagement averaged an 8.7 percentage point increase in proficiency, compared to 4.4 percentage points in other schools. These findings follow a pilot program in 2024-25 where sixth-grade classrooms saw an average 8 percentage point increase on the TCAP ELA assessment.
The analysis compares outcomes across school-grade groups with varying levels of implementation, based on preliminary 2026 Tennessee ELA assessment data. Coursemojo functions as an AI teaching assistant designed to support curriculum implementation by providing students with personalized feedback and language support, while offering teachers real-time insights into student understanding.
