Sungrow Secures First VDE Certification for German "Inertia Market"
Sungrow has obtained the VDE-FNN prototype certificate for Germany's energy system inertia market, marking a global first. The company's SC210HX series power conversion systems (PCS) meet German medium and high-voltage grid connection standards.

Sungrow, a supplier of PV inverters and energy storage systems, has achieved a global milestone in grid-forming technology. The company's SC210HX series power conversion systems (PCS) have received the VDE-FNN prototype certificate from Germany's TÜV Rheinland. This certification makes them the world's first PCS for energy storage systems that comply with all German standards for medium and high-voltage grid connection and grid-forming capability.
This achievement allows Sungrow's PowerTitan energy storage systems, equipped with the SC210HX series PCS, to significantly reduce grid connection times. It also minimizes project acceptance risks, accelerates access to Europe's new inertia market for energy systems, and substantially enhances the financial competitiveness of energy storage projects.
The certification framework, developed by VDE FNN – the German organization responsible for grid technology and operational standards – outlines comprehensive requirements for integration into medium and high-voltage grids. It is widely recognized by European grid operators, developers, and financial institutions, serving as a critical benchmark for evaluating the conformity, reliability, and grid support capabilities of energy storage projects.
Featuring Sungrow's proprietary grid-forming cell technology, the SC210CX series PCS-equipped energy storage systems offer superior grid adaptability and stable support. The system can independently generate or absorb active and reactive power to meet grid demands in various scenarios, including frequency and voltage regulation, and emergency power supply. In weak grids with high renewable penetration, the inverter maintains voltage source characteristics and rapidly provides dynamic reactive power during short-circuit faults. Furthermore, the system can establish a power grid without external synchronization and supports black start and islanded operation.
By successfully passing the rigorous VDE FNN testing process, Sungrow has proven its hardware integrity, control algorithms, and grid-forming performance meet stringent German grid standards.
