Supercomputer 'Jupiter' Ranks Among World's Most Powerful

The 'Jupiter' supercomputer, located in Jülich and valued at 500 million euros, has been ranked as the fourth most powerful and high-performing computer globally. The 80 by 40-meter system is designed for cutting-edge research, including climate model simulations, chemistry and space research, and training large-scale AI models.

The 'Jupiter' system aims to enhance Europe's self-reliance in developing its own AI capabilities. It also holds the distinction of being the most energy-efficient among the top supercomputers, topping the Green500 list. Plans are in place to utilize a portion of its generated waste heat to warm the research center.

Developed collaboratively by the Jülich Supercomputing Centre and the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, the system is provided by ParTec and Eviden. It is equipped with approximately 24,000 NVIDIA GH200 Grace Hopper Superchips. The Jülich Research Centre, established in 1956, is an international institution focused on research in information, energy, and bioeconomy.

This high-performance computing resource is expected to foster innovation and attract companies and developers to Jülich, creating a hub for artificial intelligence advancements in Europe.
