Svenska Aerogel is participating in the European Defence Fund (EDF) supported CATHERINA project, which develops advanced textile solutions for defence applications. The initiative aims to enhance smart camouflage technologies, and Svenska Aerogel's aerogel-based material is currently being assessed for its ability to reduce thermal signatures.

The CATHERINA project is a three-year initiative focused on creating textiles that can adapt their appearance to blend into surroundings while managing infrared and thermal signals. This is expected to significantly improve the detectability and survivability of defence personnel and equipment in operational environments.

Through collaboration involving nine European partners, the project aims to advance multispectral camouflage capabilities for future European defence systems. According to Svenska Aerogel representatives, selection for the project confirms the material's potential for next-generation adaptive textile solutions.

Results from the material assessment are expected by the company after the summer. Due to the project's confidential nature, specific outcomes cannot be disclosed at this stage. The European Defence Fund (EDF) supports collaborative research and development in advanced defence technologies across Europe.
