Sweco Acquires German Water Infrastructure Consultancy

Sweco has announced an agreement to acquire STEIN Ingenieure GmbH, a German engineering consultancy with approximately 60 experts specializing in water and wastewater infrastructure. The acquisition is set to enhance Sweco's footprint in the German water sector and expand its capabilities in areas such as sewer rehabilitation, drinking water and wastewater systems, and structural engineering.

STEIN Ingenieure reported a turnover of approximately €6.5 million in 2025. The acquired specialists will join Sweco Germany's organization, which already comprises over 1,800 experts. In the same year, Sweco's Germany and Central Europe business area reported a turnover of around €271 million.

The company stated that the deal addresses growing demand in Germany's water market, driven by aging infrastructure, the need for climate resilience, stricter EU regulations, and investment in modern water systems. Recent flood events and droughts have underscored the urgency for improved water infrastructure.

This acquisition aligns with Sweco's broader strategy of expansion through both acquisitions and organic growth. With a total of 23,000 experts globally, Sweco aims to strengthen its position as a leading European architecture and engineering consultancy.
