Indian food delivery platform Swiggy has integrated a new feature called Swiggy Money into its Model Context Protocol (MCP). This update allows artificial intelligence agents to finalize payments for orders placed through Swiggy Food, Instamart, and Dineout.

The new functionality enables users to add funds to their Swiggy Money account once. Subsequently, an AI agent can utilize this balance for multiple transactions without interrupting the conversational flow at the payment stage. MediaNama tested the feature using ChatGPT for a real order, identifying areas for improvement.

During testing, ChatGPT encountered difficulties accessing the user's order history, despite Swiggy's offering. The AI also did not autonomously select a saved delivery address, requiring user intervention. Although the order was eventually paid for, ChatGPT erroneously reported a payment failure immediately after the order was confirmed.

Swiggy's previous MCP integration in January exhibited inconsistencies. The new Swiggy Money feature directly addresses payment friction. However, achieving full autonomy for AI agents will require further enhancements in maintaining context and minimizing user interruptions throughout the order fulfillment process.

The significance of Swiggy Money lies in its transformation of an AI assistant from a recommendation engine to an active agent. While it removes a major interruption, it also increases the need for clear spending limits, transaction status tracking, and liability considerations to ensure user protection.
