Swiss Telecom Operators Launch Consortium to Enhance Fraud Detection

Swisscom and Sunrise, Switzerland's two largest telecom providers, have launched a collaborative consortium to combat fraud by exchanging real-time intelligence on malicious actors and activities. The initiative, facilitated by LexisNexis Risk Solutions, allows the operators to alert each other to identified fraud attempts.

When a fraudulent actor is detected within one operator's network, they often attempt to pivot to another. The consortium enables operators to share information on known risk signals, creating an early warning system to prevent new attacks. The telecommunications sector is particularly vulnerable to fraud as it plays a central role in digital authentication and initial customer interactions.

During the first three months of the consortium's operation, Swisscom and Sunrise identified over 4,000 high-risk data attributes. This resulted in a 150% increase in fraud detection and achieved a confidence rate of nearly 100% for consortium-generated fraud alerts.

According to the operators, the collaboration enables a more proactive fraud prevention strategy. The ability to act on high-risk signals before a fraud attempt occurs improves threat management. The near real-time feedback loop ensures that if one party detects a threat, the other can act immediately if the same threat targets them.
