Synopsys and OpenAI Partner on AI Chip Design Model
Synopsys and OpenAI have announced a strategic partnership to jointly develop the GPT-Synopsys model for semiconductor design workflows.

Synopsys, a provider of electronic design automation (EDA) software, and AI company OpenAI have entered into a strategic partnership to jointly develop the GPT-Synopsys model. The multi-year agreement was announced in early October.
The GPT-Synopsys model will integrate OpenAI's AI capabilities with Synopsys' EDA tools and agent-based AI features. This integration aims to enable the model to perform semiconductor design workflows using Synopsys' EDA tools, positioning it as a native expert user of these tools.
This development is intended to allow engineers to explore more design options and optimize for power, performance, and area (PPA). The goal is to facilitate faster delivery of more complex chip designs.
Engineers will be able to delegate design objectives to intelligent agents that interpret results, implement changes, and iterate until a verified outcome is ready for review. OpenAI will gain access to Synopsys' EDA tools for model development, and both companies will collaborate on research, development, and joint marketing initiatives.
