T-Systems and Sparxity partner on energy-efficient AI infrastructure

T-Systems, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, has signed a letter of intent with Dresden-based Sparxity to advance energy-efficient AI computing infrastructure. The partnership was formally announced at the German government's Digital Summit.

The collaboration centers on Sparxity’s hardware, which utilizes "sparse computation" to ensure processing power is consumed only when necessary, rather than operating at constant capacity. By integrating these specialized chips into T-Systems' existing data center environments, the companies aim to improve the scalability and sustainability of AI operations.

The project involves a phased integration, starting with technical validation of current hardware. A full-scale deployment within T-Systems’ data center infrastructure and its broader AI ecosystem is targeted for 2028. This move aligns with broader industry efforts to reduce the power intensity of large-scale AI models.
