Tado launches new smart thermostat to compete with Nest

German smart home company Tado has launched its Smart Thermostat X, a second-generation thermostat supporting the Matter-over-Thread protocol. The release targets European users, particularly those who previously used Google's Nest thermostats.

Google's decision to shut down servers for its first and second-generation thermostats drove "significant sales" for Tado, co-founder and managing director Christian Deilmann told The Verge. While Google still supports its third-generation Nest, Deilmann sees an opportunity for Tado to offer a long-term alternative.

The new Smart Thermostat X is designed for seamless integration with other smart home devices via the Matter standard. This aims to provide users with a more efficient way to manage their home heating and energy consumption. The thermostat includes advanced energy-saving features and an intuitive user interface.
