Tamron has officially launched its new 12-20mm F/2.8 Di III VXD ultrawide lens in China. Initially available for Sony E-mount cameras, the lens is priced at 12,690 yuan (approximately $1,750 USD) and will go on sale on July 30. A Nikon Z-mount version is scheduled for release on August 27.

The lens features an optical design that incorporates elements such as XGM (extra large glass molded aspherical) lenses. This construction aims to effectively suppress distortion and chromatic aberration towards the edges of the image. Additionally, it is designed to correct sagittal coma flare, a common issue in astrophotography, ensuring high sharpness from the center to the periphery.

Optically, the lens consists of 12 groups and 17 elements. It offers a minimum focusing distance of 0.18 meters at the wide-angle end. The maximum magnification ratio at the telephoto end is 1:9.1. The Sony E-mount version weighs 585 grams.

Tamron is a well-established manufacturer known for its diverse range of camera lenses, catering to both professional photographers and hobbyists across various camera systems. The company's portfolio includes a wide array of zoom and prime lenses.

The release in China marks the initial availability, with further details on the lens's performance and specifications confirmed.
