Teamsters and United Airlines Reach Agreement in Principle on New Contract

Washington D.C. – The Teamsters Union announced on July 21, 2026, that it has reached an agreement in principle with United Airlines for a new contract covering more than 11,000 mechanics and related employees across the United States. This development follows nearly two years of negotiations.

The proposed contract includes substantial wage increases and accelerated progression to top pay, reportedly reducing the time from eight years to five. Upon ratification, a signing bonus of $54 million, amounting to $5,000 per member, will be distributed. The union's bargaining committee voted 19-to-12 to recommend the agreement to its members.

Teamsters General President Sean M. O'Brien stated that the agreement will 'raise the bar for every airline worker in America.' The union highlighted that the contract secures industry-leading wages and clear job protections. The deal also extends the Retiree Bridge Medical Plan for two years and expedites grievance and arbitration processes.

The Teamsters negotiating committee will finalize the contract language. Members will have the opportunity to review the full details and vote on ratification once the tentative agreement is complete.
