Tech Giants Race to Stock AI Gadgets for Holiday Sales

Major technology companies Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft have unveiled new devices in recent weeks, signaling an intensified effort to bring generative artificial intelligence into consumer homes. These product launches are timed to reach store shelves in anticipation of the upcoming holiday sales period.

The companies are promoting enhanced personal assistants and faster, on-device chips equipped with AI capabilities. These features are integrated into a range of new products, including laptops, tablets, phones, and smart home devices, as firms seek to capture market share.

Industry analysts suggest the strategy involves gradually familiarizing consumers with AI technology. "This is really about getting devices into consumers’ hands, into consumers’ homes, slowly teaching them how to use it, and getting feedback from them," stated Jitesh Ubrani, an analyst at IDC. He cautioned, however, that significant sales volumes are not expected immediately.

Potential headwinds include subdued consumer confidence, driven by persistent inflation and high prices, alongside concerns regarding AI's safety implications. Elevated component costs have also contributed to hardware price increases, impacting broader consumer electronics shipments.
