Tech Layoffs Continue in August as Apple, TikTok, Netflix, and LinkedIn Cut Jobs

August 2026 is ending as it began, with several prominent technology companies announcing substantial layoffs. These recent cuts highlight continued adjustments within the tech sector.

Apple has reportedly laid off over 60 employees from its Vision Pro team and an unspecified number from its Siri and gaming divisions, totaling around 200 job reductions. The cuts affect key product areas where the company has faced challenges. Apple confirmed the workforce adjustments, stating they are part of a restructuring effort and that affected employees will be supported.

TikTok initiated a second round of layoffs in August, cutting approximately 75 jobs in the Seattle area, primarily within its e-commerce teams. This follows earlier cuts of 250 employees related to the closure of its Nashville content moderation office. The company cited operational restructures as the reason for the latest reductions.

Netflix is closing two of its game development studios: Night School Studio in Los Angeles, known for the Oxenfree series, and Moonloot in Helsinki. This move signals a strategic refocusing of Netflix's gaming division, though the exact number of affected employees has not been disclosed.

LinkedIn, the professional networking platform, is shutting down its research and development operations in Israel, resulting in the loss of approximately 50 jobs. The R&D center was established in 2022 following a significant acquisition. The reasons for this closure have not been detailed.

Cumulatively, tech job losses in 2026 have now surpassed the total for 2025, with over 127,000 employees laid off across 281 companies. However, this figure remains below the peak of 2023, when nearly 266,000 tech workers lost their jobs.
