Tech Stocks Lead Wall Street Amid Strong AI-Driven Forecasts

Technology stocks led Wall Street's gains on Thursday, buoyed by stronger-than-anticipated profits from major players including Nvidia and Salesforce. The S&P 500 index rose 0.7%, nearing its recent all-time high, while the Nasdaq composite climbed 1.4%.

Nvidia emerged as a key driver, climbing 9% after reporting quarterly revenue and profit that surpassed analyst expectations. Crucially, the chipmaker also issued revenue growth forecasts that exceeded estimates, indicating sustained demand for chips powering artificial intelligence projects. This performance helped alleviate recent concerns about AI stock valuations potentially being overinflated.

Salesforce shares surged 20.9% after announcing that AI contributed to one of its best quarters historically. The company reported profits above analyst predictions, with CEO Marc Benioff highlighting significant demand for its AI and data products. Salesforce also raised its full-year revenue forecast and announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic to integrate its AI chatbot.

Elsewhere, market trends were mixed. HP's stock declined 5% despite exceeding profit expectations, as analysts cited concerns over personal computer sales and margin pressures from commodity costs. In retail, Best Buy fell 3.9% even after beating earnings and revenue estimates, reflecting broader worries about consumer spending amid high inflation and economic uncertainty.
