Tech Stocks Rise Despite Soaring Bond Yields

Technology stocks experienced a rebound this week, with major indices showing gains despite elevated Treasury yields. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite led the advance, rising 2% for the week. The S&P 500 added 1%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.3%.

Surging Treasury yields, driven by strong economic data and hawkish commentary from the Federal Reserve, increased concerns over further interest rate hikes. The 10-year Treasury yield topped 5.2%, reaching levels not seen since 2007, while the 30-year yield hit a high since 2004. Higher-than-expected manufacturing PMI data and rising oil prices contributed to inflationary pressures, bolstering expectations for additional Fed tightening.

Meta Platforms unveiled plans to expand its AI agent, Muse, into a broader ecosystem. New partnerships with major retailers and the introduction of new hardware, including VR headsets and smart glasses, aim to enhance Muse's capabilities and generate revenue through subscriptions and transaction fees. Meta's stock rose approximately 13% during the week.

Microsoft's cloud division, Azure, demonstrated accelerated growth, with analysts increasing confidence in the company's AI investments. Azure revenue increased by 43% in the fourth fiscal quarter and is expected to see further acceleration. Microsoft shares gained over 4% for the week, turning positive for the year.
