TechCrunch Mobility: AV Companies Pick Their Lanes

Autonomous vehicle (AV) technology is transitioning from its testing phase to commercial deployment, prompting companies in the sector to define their scaling strategies.
A prominent strategy emerging is expansion through partnerships. UK-based Wayve has secured a new commercial collaboration with Mercedes-Benz. Under the agreement, Wayve's automated driving technology is slated for integration into at least one Mercedes-Benz model within the next two years.
This current implementation is at Level 2 automation, which requires the human driver to remain engaged and attentive, unlike fully driverless Level 4 systems. However, this partnership provides Wayve with significant reach, following similar deals with Nissan and Stellantis.
Wayve aims to leverage these partnerships to also commercialize its fully driverless products. Earlier this year, the company announced a collaboration with Nissan and Uber, indicating a broader effort to integrate its technology across various transportation segments.
