Technical Collections Dresden to close for multi-year renovation
The Technical Collections in Dresden are shutting down for a comprehensive renovation project. Work on the historic industrial site is scheduled to continue until autumn 2029.

Starting this coming Monday, the Technical Collections Dresden (TSD) will close its doors to accommodate a multi-year renovation process. To mark the transition, the museum is hosting a farewell weekend featuring workshops and tours before construction begins.
The renovation of the historic Ernemann building is a significant undertaking, with the city budgeting over 20 million euros for structural updates. The project focuses on energy efficiency, including the replacement of approximately 600 windows and improvements to the building's roof and facade. Additionally, safety measures such as new emergency exits and the creation of a science garden are planned.
While the museum remains one of Dresden's most visited municipal sites, the facility will remain closed until autumn 2029. To maintain presence during the closure, some exhibition elements and the Science Center program will be relocated temporarily to the Dresden City Museum.
