Teenage Carpenter Becomes Founder of AI Construction Startup Trunk Tools
Sarah Buchner, with a background in carpentry and general contracting, founded Trunk Tools to leverage AI for managing construction data. The company has recently secured significant funding.

Sarah Buchner, who spent over a decade working in construction, has founded Trunk Tools, an artificial intelligence startup focused on the construction industry. The company aims to tackle the challenges of fragmented and complex data within the sector.
Buchner's career in construction began as a teenager in Austria, following her carpenter father. She progressed to become a general contractor managing large projects. A turning point came after a worker fatality on one of her sites, prompting her to re-evaluate her work and explore safety solutions.
These experiences led Buchner to pursue a Ph.D. in data science and AI, where she identified a significant problem: construction projects generate vast amounts of data, often scattered across systems and buried in documents, making analysis difficult. This realization formed the basis for Trunk Tools.
Founded in 2021, Trunk Tools utilizes advanced language models to integrate and analyze millions of pages of construction documentation. Its AI agents can review contracts, identify inconsistencies in drawings, and assist with bidding processes. The company has attracted substantial investment and experienced rapid revenue growth.
