Telekom acquires ruhrfibre and Metrofibre fiber networks in Essen

Deutsche Telekom has agreed to acquire the fiber optic network infrastructure from ruhrfibre Essen and Metrofibre in Essen, Germany. This acquisition will bring approximately 87,000 households onto the Telekom network.

The acquired network is seen as a strategic addition to Telekom's existing and planned infrastructure in the city. Parts of the network are already complete, with others in various stages of development. Telekom intends to integrate these networks into its own technical architecture and continue their expansion.

The company stated that the acquisition complements its ongoing, self-financed fiber optic expansion in Essen. Telekom has been investing in the city's FTTH (Fiber to the Home) network for several years. Following this deal, Telekom will significantly increase its fiber footprint in the key Ruhr region city.

This follows Telekom's earlier acquisition of DOKOM21's fiber network in Essen, which is expected to serve an additional 25,000 households. The company aims to solidify its role as a major provider of fiber connectivity in the area.
