Telekom Launches 1000 Mbit/s Fiber Tariff for Consumers

German telecommunications provider Deutsche Telekom has launched its MagentaZuhause Giga fiber optic tariff, providing private households with download speeds of up to 1000 Mbit/s. The new offering is available to customers who already have a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) connection.

Telekom has faced criticism in the past for its slower adoption of fiber optic technology compared to older copper-based services like VDSL. The company announced the new high-speed tariff at the IFA trade show in Berlin, aiming to address these concerns. The MagentaZuhause Giga tariff offers download speeds of 1000 Mbit/s and upload speeds of up to 500 Mbit/s. The monthly cost is 119.95 euros and includes telephony flat rates to all German landlines and mobile networks, as well as the EntertainTV Plus multimedia package.

Additionally, Telekom introduced the "Speed XXL" option for existing "MagentaZuhause L" customers. This upgrade allows customers to increase their speeds to up to 500 Mbit/s, providing a faster connection for those who wish to enhance their current service without changing their entire plan. The company aims to offer a significant speed boost for consumers.

The introduction of the 1000 Mbit/s tariff represents a notable advancement in Germany's broadband infrastructure. This move is expected to enhance the digital capabilities of households and potentially spur further competition among service providers in the high-speed internet market.
