Temporary School Building to be Constructed on Lübeck Parking Lot
Lübeck will construct a temporary school building on the P1 parking lot on Kanalstraße, with completion expected by the end of 2025 to accommodate approximately 420 students starting in August 2026.

The city of Lübeck is proceeding with the construction of a temporary school building on the P1 parking lot located on Kanalstraße. This parking area will be closed for construction activities starting September 1, 2025. The new, two-story modular building is slated to house approximately 420 students from the Katharineum and Ernestinenschule high schools beginning in August 2026.
This structure will serve as an interim solution until the schools can relocate to a planned educational center in the former Karstadt department store building. Increased space is necessary as the state of Schleswig-Holstein reverts to a nine-year Abitur track (G9) starting in the 2026/27 academic year.
The construction of the modular facility is designed for a rapid build. The first building components are anticipated for delivery by the end of 2025. The city has arranged for alternative parking facilities in the vicinity to mitigate disruption.
The construction of this temporary school facility is part of broader efforts to enhance educational infrastructure in Lübeck, addressing the growing need for space and adapting to evolving academic requirements.
