Tencent adds mobile remote control to WorkBuddy AI platform

Tencent has integrated a remote control feature into its WorkBuddy AI platform, designed to enable users to monitor and intervene in AI agent workflows from their smartphones. Developed alongside the company's Edge One team, the update allows users to view their computer screens in real time and take manual control of tasks.

Unlike standard remote desktop software, the tool is tailored for AI operations. It addresses a common hurdle in current AI automation: the need for human authorization or troubleshooting when an agent encounters unexpected errors, such as expired login credentials or permission requests. Users can manage these interventions directly from their phone, reducing the necessity of being physically present at their computer.

Data security is managed through an encrypted channel, with Tencent stating that no screen footage or user input is stored during these sessions. The system currently restricts remote access to one authenticated device per computer.

While the tool provides a bridge for simple tasks, its long-term utility for complex multi-window workflows remains to be evaluated. Tencent has indicated that future updates will introduce enterprise-grade features, including audit logs and tiered permission management.
