Tencent develops consumer AI search engine
Tencent is reportedly building an AI-powered search tool for retail users, integrating search capabilities from its existing enterprise cloud infrastructure.

Tencent is expanding its artificial intelligence portfolio by developing a consumer-facing search engine that blends AI-generated responses with traditional web indexing. According to industry reports, the upcoming tool will feature a simplified user interface designed to prioritize authoritative sources over broad search results.
The search engine leverages the underlying architecture found in Tencent’s existing Yuanbao application and the recently launched Yuanbao Search API. By utilizing a unified backend, the company aims to consolidate search technology across its various platforms, including the consumer-focused QQ Browser and the enterprise-grade Sogou service.
The initiative is led by a specialized team established in mid-2024. This development reflects a broader industry trend among major technology firms to integrate generative AI directly into search tools to compete with established search providers.
