Tencent Games pilots removal of management titles
Tencent Games has initiated a pilot program to eliminate traditional management titles such as "Director" and "Team Lead." The reform aims to simplify organizational structure and focus on core responsibilities.

Chinese technology giant Tencent has launched a pilot initiative within its gaming division to reshape its internal organizational structure. The reform involves phasing out traditional management titles like "Director" (总监) and "Team Lead" (组长), replacing them with more general designations such as "Responsible Person" (负责人) and "Member" (成员). This move aims to streamline the organization, reduce hierarchy, and emphasize employees' core duties and value creation.
The pilot program is being implemented first in the Tencent Games division for domestic distribution and ecosystem development. This department functions as a central support unit, focusing on backend operations and external relations, tasked with aiding the success of development projects within the domestic distribution line.
According to an internal memo, the new "Responsible Person system" seeks to establish a more flexible and efficient organizational model focused on clear objectives and fostering innovation. Alongside the removal of management titles, certain previous administrative tiers (L1/2) will also be abolished. Personnel evaluations will increasingly emphasize professional expertise and contribution. Individuals in leadership roles will receive a specific "M" tag, indicating their formal managerial capacity and responsibility for team leadership.
