Tencent updates QQ for HarmonyOS with concise mode
Tencent has launched a new test version of its QQ messaging app for HarmonyOS, introducing a simplified interface option.
Tencent has initiated a public beta for version 9.2.80 of its QQ messaging application tailored for the HarmonyOS ecosystem. The testing period, available via Huawei's App Gallery, runs from November 4 through November 24, 2026.
The update introduces a 'concise mode' intended to reduce visual clutter. This interface prioritizes text messaging by stripping away personalized chat bubbles and decorative elements, moving toward a monochromatic and minimalist design. Additional improvements in this release include AI-powered photo restoration features, enhanced file management for group chats, and more granular controls for message moderation.
The HarmonyOS version of QQ, which faced criticism at launch for missing core features, has seen rapid iterative development. As of September 2026, installation figures reached approximately 49.7 million. The company continues to work on feature parity with its Android and iOS counterparts to improve the current user rating of 2.4.
