Tencent updates WeChat HarmonyOS application with new features

Tencent has released version 8.0.23.16 of its WeChat application for Huawei’s HarmonyOS to selected beta testers. Available through the Huawei App Gallery, the testing phase is scheduled to run through late November 2026, marking a continued effort to optimize the platform for the HarmonyOS environment.

The update includes several UI and UX improvements, most notably aligning the platform's iconography with other versions of the app. Technical adjustments include improved support for system font weights across Flutter-based pages and the ability to long-press and copy specific contact details such as usernames and regional information.

New functional tools have also been integrated, including refined controls for personalized content recommendations within ringtone settings and enhanced search capabilities for live streaming content. Furthermore, the update adds a direct interface for the 'Xiao Wei' AI assistant within the platform's audio features, allowing for faster user interaction.
