Tesla and Samsung oppose potential US tariffs following Vietnam probe
Tesla and Samsung are pushing back against potential US tariffs as authorities conclude an investigation into Vietnam's intellectual property practices by November 29.

The investigation, initiated on May 29 under Section 301 of the Trade Act, allows for the imposition of tariffs or trade sanctions. With the deadline set for late November, major companies have stepped forward to lobby against protectionist measures.
Tesla has cited the critical importance of supply chain stability for US-based manufacturing. Samsung, which has invested roughly $25 billion in Vietnam, views the country as a vital hub for producing smartphones and telecommunications infrastructure destined for the US market. Their position contrasts with some sectors, such as the wood and solar industries, which have expressed support for trade penalties.
This inquiry coincides with broader US trade scrutiny of Vietnam. In July, the US imposed a 12.5% tariff on Vietnamese imports following a separate investigation into forced labor practices. The final scope of the current intellectual property-related action remains under review.
