Tesla China Integrates ByteDance's Doubao Language Model in Vehicles
Tesla China is rolling out a software update integrating ByteDance's Doubao large language model into Model 3, Y, S, and X vehicles. The update enhances the in-car voice assistant for more natural interactions.
Tesla China has begun rolling out software version 2026.14.13, which formally integrates ByteDance's Doubao large language model into the Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X. This update is being delivered in batches to newly delivered vehicles and some existing cars.
The Doubao model is integrated as a standalone in-car application, providing voice-based interaction. Users can choose from four voice options and five modes designed for real-time information queries, conversation, storytelling, English practice, and debate. According to Tesla's release notes, the model is capable of providing up-to-date information and engaging in more natural conversations.
This update effectively transforms Tesla's China-specific AI strategy into a customer-facing feature delivered through the car's software system. Tesla's voice assistant setup also utilizes Doubao for commands related to navigation, media playback, and climate control adjustments, while a separate model, DeepSeek, handles broader AI interactions within the vehicle.
