Tesla Cybercab Robotaxi Reportedly Opens for Public Test Rides
Tesla plans to open its autonomous Cybercab taxi service for public test rides in Austin, Texas, by the end of this month, according to reports.

Tesla is reportedly planning to offer public test rides of its autonomous Cybercab taxi service in Austin, Texas, by the end of August, according to The Information, which cited anonymous sources. The Cybercab, designed for fully autonomous driving, was officially announced at Tesla's "WE,REBOT" event in October 2024.
Over the past several months, Tesla has been testing the Cybercab on public roads. Last month, employees were reportedly able to ride in the Cybercab on private roads near the company's Austin headquarters. This indicates a progression in the vehicle's development and testing phases.
Sources also revealed that Tesla has recently trained emergency responders in Austin on how to handle accidents and emergencies involving the Cybercab. This suggests the company is preparing for potential incidents as the service nears public deployment.
Analysts previously noted Tesla's strategy of controlling the number of Model Y vehicles in its Robotaxi services to facilitate Cybercab deployment. The company views its FSD V15 software update as a significant step towards expanding unsupervised FSD services, with initial feedback on the system being positive.
