Tesla discontinues Solar Roof product

Tesla has ceased production of its Solar Roof product, which was designed to mimic standard roofing tiles. According to reports from Electrek, Tesla has informed its third-party installer network that Solar Roof is no longer available for new orders. The company will exclusively supply conventional solar panels going forward.

While Tesla has not officially announced the discontinuation, changes to its website corroborate the reports. The dedicated Solar Roof page, launched nearly a decade ago, now automatically redirects to Tesla's main solar panel page, signaling a shift away from the product.

The Solar Roof system was initially introduced in 2016 with the aim of integrating solar energy seamlessly into home aesthetics. However, the product has faced significant challenges in manufacturing and installation, impacting its widespread adoption and commercial viability. These difficulties likely contributed to the decision to end its production.

This move suggests a strategic refocus for Tesla within the renewable energy sector. The company will continue to offer its standard solar panels and energy storage solutions, such as the Powerwall battery, but appears to be prioritizing more established solar technologies.
