Tesla leads AI answers on EVs, new index shows
Tesla accounts for nearly one in five AI answers about electric vehicles, according to the new 5W AI Visibility Index. Charging networks are largely absent from AI discussions.

Tesla dominates discussions about electric vehicles (EVs) within artificial intelligence platforms, according to the new "5W AI Visibility Index — EV." The report reveals that Tesla holds an 18.4% share of AI-generated answers across platforms like ChatGPT and Google when users inquire about EVs, exceeding the combined share of the next three brands.
The index, which analyzed five major AI engines, placed Rivian second with an 8.2% citation share, followed by Ford at 6.4%. The findings underscore the growing importance of AI in consumer research, with over a third of consumers reportedly starting their product investigations through AI tools.
Notably, major EV charging networks such as Electrify America, EVgo, and ChargePoint were found to be largely absent from these AI conversations. This lack of visibility persists despite their critical role in the EV infrastructure, presenting an opportunity for companies that can build a strong presence in AI-driven searches.
Tesla's strong performance is attributed to the deep integration of its brand, products, and CEO mentions in AI responses. General Motors, despite its scale, lagged behind in AI visibility, partly due to its fragmented approach to reporting EV models compared to Ford's consolidated narrative.
Ronn Torossian, Founder and Chairman of 5W AI Communications, highlighted that AI search results are significantly shaping consumer consideration. He pointed out that charging networks need to prioritize their AI visibility, as controlling the "where to charge" narrative could anchor long-term growth.
