Tesla's Model Y was the best-selling passenger car across all five Nordic countries in September 2026. In Norway, one in four new cars registered was a Tesla.
Tesla announced that its Model Y electric vehicle became the top-selling passenger car across Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden in September 2026. In Norway, electric vehicles represented 98.8% of all new car registrations, with the Model Y leading sales.
According to data from the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV), a total of 18,733 new passenger cars were registered in Norway in September 2026, of which 18,511 were fully electric. The Tesla Model Y accounted for 4,810 registrations, more than eight times the number of the second-best seller, the Volvo EX30 (576 units). Tesla's overall brand market share in Norway for the month was 26.3%.
In Sweden, the Model Y also led passenger car sales in September 2026, with deliveries increasing by 68% year-over-year. Fully electric vehicles constituted 49% of Sweden's total new car sales during that month.
Tesla has significantly expanded its presence in the Nordic region. In Norway, cumulative deliveries have surpassed 200,000 vehicles, representing approximately 20% of the country's total electric vehicle fleet. In Denmark, cumulative sales have exceeded 100,000 vehicles. To meet growing demand in the European market, Tesla's Berlin Gigafactory plans to increase its weekly production capacity for the Model Y from approximately 5,000 to 7,500 vehicles starting in October 2026.
