Tesla Optimus Robot: Third Generation Design Revealed in App Leak
New renderings of Tesla's third-generation Optimus humanoid robot have surfaced within the company's Android app. The images reveal significant design updates compared to earlier prototypes, indicating a move towards mass production.

Renderings of the third-generation Tesla Optimus humanoid robot have been discovered within the company's Android mobile application, offering an unreleased look at the latest iteration of the machine. These internal UI models, found by Tesla enthusiasts, showcase significant design changes from previous versions, such as Gen 2.5.
The Optimus Gen 3 appears more streamlined and industrially finished. Key design updates include a new sealed joint at the pelvis and upper torso, concealing mechanical linkages for a cleaner look and protection against dust. The previously seen gold accents have been replaced by a more subdued matte black, contributing to a unified dual-color scheme.
The robot's hands have also undergone substantial upgrades, with Gen 3 boasting 22 degrees of freedom, approaching human-like dexterity. External panels fit more closely, giving the robot a more finished appearance, resembling a consumer product rather than an exposed prototype.
Designed for factory mass production, the Gen 3 iteration emphasizes simplified manufacturing and a refined exterior. Tesla has previously indicated delays in its public unveiling, with CEO Elon Musk citing the need for further refinements. The company has reportedly begun retooling a production line at its Fremont factory for Optimus assembly, targeting an initial annual capacity of one million units.
While large-scale production was initially slated for this year, it may still occur before year-end. Tesla's long-term ambition includes scaling Optimus production to 10 million units annually at Gigafactory Texas. The app leak also suggests Tesla is preparing software support for managing the robots via mobile devices.
