Tesla Rebrands 'Full Self-Driving' in Europe Amid Regulator Concerns

Automaker Tesla has rebranded its "Full Self-Driving (Supervised)" system to "Assisted Driving" in Europe. The change comes after German regulators expressed concerns that the FSD branding was "somewhat misleading."

The German Federal Ministry of Transport stated that the system does not fully take over the driving task, but rather functions as a driver assistance system. It emphasized that the driver must remain attentive at all times.

In the U.S., the system continues to be marketed as "Full Self-Driving (Supervised)" at a price of $99 per month. Tesla is seeking approvals across Europe, a market where electric vehicle sales have seen growth amid rising fuel costs.

Tesla has previously faced scrutiny from European automotive regulators, with reports suggesting the company has pressured authorities for faster approvals. Reuters indicated that this pressure may have led to reduced intensity in safety testing and reviews in some instances.

In the United States, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating Tesla's FSD system for safety. Additionally, a California judge ruled in 2025 that Tesla had engaged in deceptive marketing regarding its Autopilot and FSD systems.
