The recruitment is taking place in several South American cities, including Bogota and Medellin in Colombia, and Santiago in Chile. Job duties entail driving test vehicles for 6 to 8 hours daily, collecting camera and audio data, writing reports, and debugging software and hardware. The job descriptions specifically mention the need to "oversee the daily operations of the ride-hailing service, including driver and passenger management."
While these roles primarily support Tesla's FSD (Full Self-Driving) team and focus on vehicle testing and data collection, the postings suggest that foundational infrastructure for local autonomous fleets is being established. This development follows Tesla's recent announcement that its Robotaxi fleet has accumulated over 380,000 miles of unsupervised driving.
Tesla has so far only announced new Robotaxi cities within the US, such as Las Vegas and Phoenix. These South American recruitments represent the first concrete signal of a plan to expand beyond US borders.
