Tesla Robotaxis Operate Without Human Monitors in Austin

Tesla's Robotaxi service in Austin appears to have shifted to fully unsupervised operation, with all 170 monitored rides over the past two weeks conducted without human safety drivers onboard. The shift was observed by Ethan McKanna, creator of the crowdsourced Robotaxi Tracker.

McKanna reported that 54 different Tesla vehicles in Austin completed these unsupervised rides. The tracker also noted a significant increase in driverless Teslas operating in Dallas and Houston, with approximately 30 such vehicles observed in those areas over the last week.

This development follows Elon Musk's earlier announcement seven months prior that Tesla Robotaxis in Austin were being tested without human monitors. The expansion of unsupervised operation comes ahead of Tesla's anticipated launch of its Cybercab service, signaling a potential acceleration in the company's autonomous driving ambitions.

Tesla has been actively developing its autonomous driving technology, with Robotaxis representing a key component of its future mobility strategy. The successful deployment of fully driverless services in multiple cities could provide a crucial stepping stone for broader commercialization and adoption of self-driving vehicles.
