Tesla secures $30 billion in credit lines as AI spending accelerates

Electric vehicle maker Tesla has secured credit facilities totaling $30 billion, signaling significant financial preparation for its escalating investments in artificial intelligence and manufacturing expansion. The agreements, detailed in a regulatory filing on September 29, include a $20 billion delayed-draw term loan facility and an $8 billion revolving credit facility.

This financial package is intended to support record spending anticipated by the company. These funds are earmarked for investments in AI compute infrastructure, solar cell manufacturing, and a semiconductor fabrication project with SpaceX, alongside other expansion initiatives.

Analysts anticipate Tesla may face a negative free cash flow of approximately $9.78 billion, according to data tracked by London Stock Exchange Group. The company has previously forecast capital expenditures exceeding $25 billion for 2026.

Credit rating agencies Moody's and S&P Global Ratings have assigned Tesla ratings of Baa3 and BBB, respectively, both with stable outlooks. Tesla reported no outstanding borrowings under the new facilities as of September 29 and does not plan to draw on them in 2026.
