Tesla Tests Automatic Headlight Leveling Feature
Tesla is testing a new Dynamic Headlight Leveling feature that automatically adjusts the vehicle's headlight angle based on driving conditions and vehicle posture.
Tesla has begun testing a new automatic headlight leveling feature as part of recent software updates for some of its vehicles. The function, identified as Dynamic Headlight Leveling, has been observed in certain Model 3 and Cybertruck vehicles in regions including the United States and the United Arab Emirates.
The new feature aims to enhance driver visibility while simultaneously preventing glare for oncoming traffic. It automatically adjusts the vertical angle of the low-beam headlights in response to changes in the vehicle's posture, such as during acceleration, braking, or when the rear suspension compresses due to heavy cargo. This functionality automates a process traditionally requiring manual adjustment in many vehicles.
Distinct from Tesla's existing adaptive matrix headlights, which control individual LED elements to create dark zones, this dynamic leveling system directly adjusts the entire projector module's tilt. The system uses internal motors to continuously modify the headlight's pitch, ensuring the light beam remains focused on the road ahead.
Currently, the feature is in a limited testing phase, deployed to a small number of vehicles across different hardware versions. Tesla is gathering data to assess the feature's performance and its impact on headlight hardware before a wider rollout. The company has not yet provided a specific timeline for its general availability.
