Tesla to Cease Cybertruck Production by Mid-2027
Tesla has announced plans to discontinue its Cybertruck electric pickup, concluding the model's production cycle just three and a half years after its commercial launch.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed on November 6 that the company intends to phase out the Cybertruck by mid-2027. First unveiled in 2019, the stainless-steel vehicle faced a difficult development path, characterized by repeated production delays, significant price volatility, and 11 safety-related recalls.
The vehicle's trajectory was complicated from its inception. The 2019 reveal was marred by a high-profile failure of its 'armor glass' windows during a live demonstration. While pre-orders were initially high, the production ramp-up lagged two years behind the original schedule, with initial deliveries not commencing until late 2023.
Throughout its brief commercial life, the Cybertruck experienced frequent price adjustments, with base models seeing substantial increases compared to the figures announced at launch. Furthermore, the vehicle required 11 separate recalls—ranging from over-the-air software corrections to mechanical repairs for issues like faulty accelerator pedal covers and trim defects—which impacted the brand's reputation for reliability.
As the company prepares to conclude the program, the Cybertruck serves as a case study in the risks of prioritizing avant-garde design over manufacturing efficiency. The discontinuation signals a strategic shift as Tesla moves away from the polarizing pickup project.
