Tesla to Reveal Next-Generation Roadster After Decade-Long Delays

Tesla is set to reveal its next-generation Roadster on Thursday, almost a decade after the electric sports car was first announced. The unveiling event will be livestreamed from a SpaceX test site in McGregor, Texas.

The original Tesla Roadster, launched in 2008, was produced in limited numbers until 2012. The upcoming model, first previewed in 2017, has been subject to repeated delays, missing every targeted delivery date. CEO Elon Musk has previously suggested the new Roadster could incorporate SpaceX's cold gas thrusters, potentially enabling enhanced performance and even "flight" capabilities.

Tesla began accepting reservations and deposits for the updated Roadster in 2017, with amounts reaching $50,000. Musk had teased a demonstration event for late 2025, which did not materialize. The persistent delays have drawn commentary from industry observers and former associates.

In recent weeks, Tesla reopened reservations for the Roadster, accepting deposits from buyers in the U.S., Canada, and China. The company is expected to provide specific details on pricing, production targets, and technical specifications during the Thursday event. Tesla is scheduled to report its third-quarter financial results on Wednesday.
