Tesla unveils SpaceX-powered Roadster capable of flight
Tesla has revealed its second-generation Roadster, now equipped with SpaceX thruster technology. During a demonstration, the car used its thrusters to perform aerial maneuvers and land smoothly.

Tesla has unveiled its redesigned second-generation Roadster, featuring thruster technology developed by SpaceX. CEO Elon Musk presented the vehicle at an event outside Waco, Texas, where it performed a demonstration.
The demonstration showcased the Roadster utilizing a combination of high-powered fans and thrusters to ascend an inverted ramp, execute a mid-air spin, and land smoothly back on the pavement. The vehicle also employed its thrusters to lift itself over several Tesla models, including a Cybercab, Cybertruck, Tesla Semi, Model Y, and Model 3, while in motion.
Musk stated that the car will be capable of performing these maneuvers on demand. He highlighted its acceleration, claiming a 0-60 mph time of one second. Musk has previously indicated that the new Roadster is intended as a halo car for Tesla, rather than a significant revenue driver.
The integration of SpaceX propulsion systems into a production car represents a novel approach to automotive engineering. While the demonstration focused on dramatic capabilities, the practical application and regulatory approval for such features remain key considerations for the vehicle's future.
