Tesla's Automations Feature Appears in Overseas Firmware
Tesla's Automations feature, initially launched in China, has been spotted in international firmware updates, signaling a broader global rollout of the car's customizable automation system.
Tesla is preparing to extend its Automations feature, previously exclusive to the Chinese market, to customers in other regions. This functionality, which allows drivers to create custom sequences of actions triggered by specific conditions, has been observed in international firmware versions, indicating an upcoming global release.
The Automations feature operates on an "if this, then that" logic. Users can select triggers, such as a seatbelt being fastened or a voice command being issued, and link them to one or more actions. Examples demonstrated include setting the media volume or activating child locks based on occupant presence or voice prompts. This capability has been compared to Apple's Shortcuts feature for iOS devices.
While the feature has certain limitations, such as not being active during Autopilot or FSD operation, it offers significant customization. Users can create rules like enabling child locks and window locks upon hearing a specific phrase, or receiving an audio notification when the vehicle shifts into drive or reverse. The interface allows for detailed configuration of triggers and actions.
It is anticipated that the Automations feature will be part of Tesla's annual holiday software update. Additionally, there are ongoing reports and expectations surrounding the potential official launch of Apple CarPlay support, which has been in development for some time. The combined release of these features is expected to enhance the user experience for Tesla owners worldwide.
