Tesla's Optimus robot production faces manufacturing challenges

Tesla's ambitious goal to reach a weekly production of 20,000 Optimus robots is encountering significant hurdles, according to a report by The Information. The company is said to have produced only "several hundred robots a week" last month, despite repurposing its Model S and Model X production lines for Optimus earlier this year.

This shift in manufacturing strategy has introduced complications. The Information notes that aligning parts precisely for the robots is proving more challenging than for car components, as Optimus parts are smaller and require far greater accuracy.

The difficulties extend beyond the new production lines themselves. Issues have reportedly arisen with the assembly of components like hands on the current "V3" Optimus robots, further slowing down the manufacturing process.

Tesla's ability to overcome these production and engineering bottlenecks will be critical to its broader plans for scaling Optimus robot deployment in the future.
