Thailand Mandates Digital Arrival Card, Plans Tourism Fee
Thailand has implemented a mandatory digital arrival card for all travelers entering the country. Additionally, the nation plans to introduce a new tourism fee set to take effect in mid-2026.
Thailand has updated its entry procedures by making the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) mandatory for all arrivals. This digital form replaces the previous paper-based system and is required for all entries via air, land, or sea, effective May 1st.
The TDAC aims to streamline border crossings and enhance security by allowing authorities to better track visitors. Travelers must complete the registration online via the TDAC portal within 72 hours of arrival. The registration is currently free of charge but is valid only for the current trip.
Furthermore, a long-discussed tourism fee is slated for implementation in mid-2026. Foreign air travelers staying in Thailand for over 24 hours will be required to pay 300 baht (approximately 8 euros). The fee will also apply to land and sea arrivals, with provisions for re-entry within 30 to 60 days without an additional charge.
The revenue generated from the tourism fee is intended to support sustainable and high-quality tourism initiatives, including infrastructure modernization, destination development, and healthcare improvements. Thailand currently offers a 60-day visa exemption for tourists, and plans to revert this policy are currently on hold.
