Thailand's RISE Fund Aims to Accelerate Research Commercialization

Thailand has initiated a new phase in its national research and innovation strategy with the launch of the Thailand RISE Fund. This rebranded national research funding initiative aims to accelerate the transition of academic research into real-world economic and social impacts.

The initiative was highlighted at the Thailand RISE Fund Forum: RISE UP THAILAND, held in collaboration with Chulalongkorn University. The national forum convened policymakers, researchers, industry leaders, and innovation stakeholders to discuss strengthening Thailand's position in the global innovation economy.

Professor Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, emphasized the importance of translating knowledge into national progress. He stated that universities must play a strategic role in national development, moving research from laboratories into practical applications with measurable economic and social benefits.

Professor Sompong Klaynongsruang, President of Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI), stressed the necessity of systematic development for Thailand's science, research, and innovation system. She highlighted that collaboration among universities, government agencies, and the private sector is crucial for achieving long-term outcomes and meaningful national transformation.

Asst. Professor Ake Pattaratanakun, Chairman of the Thailand RISE Fund Strategic Communications Subcommittee, explained that the fund is designed to act as a systemic intermediary, linking research to industry needs and focusing on proof of impact rather than publication numbers. The framework is built upon the "RISE" pillars: Research, Innovation, Science Excellence, and Ecosystem.
