The Hague ranked world's best city for quality of life for fourth year

The Hague, Netherlands, has once again been recognized as the world's leading city for quality of life. This marks the fourth consecutive year the city has secured the first place in Numbeo's annual comparison, reinforcing its reputation for providing an excellent living environment.

Numbeo's index evaluates cities based on a range of indicators, including purchasing power, healthcare, safety, cost of living, housing affordability, commuting times, pollution, and climate. This year, The Hague achieved an overall score of 230.1 in the Quality of Life Index. The city outperformed several other Dutch cities, with a total of six Dutch cities making it into the global top ten.

The city's success is attributed to its ability to blend an international working environment with the accessibility of a compact urban setting. The Hague hosts government bodies, international organizations, knowledge institutions, and business networks. Additionally, residential areas, cultural venues, green spaces, and the coast are within easy reach. The city boasts 11 kilometers of coastline, featuring beaches, dunes, and parks, allowing for a balance between international careers and access to nature and outdoor activities.

Nur Icar, Alderman for Work, Income, and Sport, stated that the fourth consecutive recognition as the world's best city for quality of life is a meaningful acknowledgment. He emphasized that this reflects The Hague's aim to be a safe, accessible, and liveable city where international organizations, businesses, knowledge institutions, and residents can thrive together. The city's score has improved from 217.1 in 2023.
