The Heart Monitors Develops AI System to Identify Human Motivations
The Heart Monitors has built an AI-enabled system to identify people's emotions and cultural tensions. The company has also received industry recognition for its work in promoting civility.
The Heart Monitors, an independent strategy and creative firm, has developed an end-to-end system combining human insight and AI to identify the feelings, cultural tensions, and emerging trends that drive people. The New York and Paris-based company aims to translate these insights into creative ideas, media participation, and measurable business growth.
In a society often polarized by social media and political divides, The Heart Monitors is focusing on "branding civility" to make it culturally relevant again. Through its Civil Media platform and the "Don't Hate Debate TV" service, the company utilizes over forty AI modules. These modules help uncover emotional tensions, model opposing perspectives, accelerate content development, and continuously learn from audience behavior.
The system operates as a closed loop: trends inform insights into emotions, which inspire creativity. This creativity generates participation, producing behavioral signals that then refine future ideas, audience strategies, and activations. The company believes this approach allows brands to detect not only what is trending but also what people care about enough to act upon.
Founder Robin Lemberg stated that AI should augment human feeling and creative judgment, not replace it. "We built a complete system around that belief—and tested it against one of the hardest cultural challenges imaginable: branding civility in an uncivil world," Lemberg said.
The company's initial year saw its "Don't Hate Debate TV" laboratory produce over 600 content pieces, analyze 1,230 videos, and garner more than 10 million views. This work has earned industry accolades, including a Webby Honoree for its use of AI in public service and activism, and multiple OMMA Award finalist nominations.
